Diagrams and renders were completed during my internship at Mackin + Associates. The images below of the Tsawwassen Youth Centre were created for the Canadian Architect Award submission. The building is inspired by traditional Tsawwassen First Nation building techniques and art.
This image above shows the structure, inspired by the traditional Tsawwassen longhouse (seen on the left of the building), and the final design by Mackin and Associate (depicted on the right side of the building). The bird illustrations are done by artist Karl Morgan. In this image, they tell the Tsawwassen creation story of how humans were originally birds who came down from the Sky world to Earth. Due to this creation story, birds are of special significance to the Tsawwassen people. Drawings of birds, by Karl Morgan, are seen across the following images, and across the building (floor tiles and windows).
